2010 Saab 9-5

By

Saabs have always been an acquired taste. Ironically, after being sold by GM and making a concerted effort to move in a “more Scandinavian” direction, the new 9-5 seems like it might have bit broader appeal than Saabs of generations gone by.  The turbocharged powertrain and powerful, defined styling make the 9-5  attractive whether you live in Sweden or San Fran. Under the hood, Saab offers a host of engine choices including a 2.0-liter 160 hp  four cylinder diesel turbo, a 1.6-liter 180 hp petrol turbo, 2.0-liter 220 hp petrol turbo and 2.8-liter 300 hp V6 turbo. A bioethanol BioPower E85 version of the 2.0-liter will be available shortly after release. Transmissions will be six speed with choice of manual or manumatic. As far as styling, Saab has sought to express its roots in aviation–from the wrap around windows to the aviation-themed display. Expect to see it at Frankfurt. [via Jalopnik]
