1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe Sells for Record Breaking $7.5M
By Alex Ion
Originally built to tackle Ferrari’s lead in the racing world, the Shelby Daytona Cobra is what famous Bob Bondurant drove more than 44 years ago when he snatched the World Manufacturers Championship from the Italians. That same car — the 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, chassis number CSX2601 — sold for a record-breaking $7.25 million at Mecum’s inaugural Monterey Auction a few days ago. That makes it the highest price to be paid at a public auction for an American car. Just by looking at it, we’re sure the happy buyer got his hands on a real monster. [via Luxist]
